Handling of All-Day Absences in Out of Office Sync for Jira and Microsoft

Out of Office Sync for Jira and Microsoft helps teams stay informed and keep work running smoothly when someone is away.

With two core features already available, the app:

  • Shows an out-of-office flag in Jira when a new assignee is absent.

  • Makes absence data available for automation, so you can adjust workflows based on team availability.

Now, with the latest release, we’ve made it even better.

What’s new?

Out of Office Sync for Jira and Microsoft  now also displays the flag if the assignee has an all-day calendar event set to the status "out of office". The message displayed will also indicate that the event is all-day.

If someone blocks a full day in Outlook, whether it’s for a workshop, a personal day, or a non-working day without an automatic reply, the app will flag them as "out of office" in Jira.

The flag requires configuration by an administrator and is not enabled by default.

Why it matters

Not all absences are vacations. This update covers common cases like:

  • A 4-day workweek with one fixed day off.

  • Full-day workshops or conferences.

  • Calendar blocks where no auto-reply is needed, but availability is limited.

Now, Jira reflects these short-term absences clearly, keeping everyone informed and avoiding confusion.

This update only affects the out-of-office notification flag.

It does not change how the custom field values with OOO data are synced or used in automations. Since these are typically short absences, they’re not included in automation logic as of now.

This update is now live, bringing more flexibility and transparency to how your team handles day-to-day absences.
